The Culture Committee
The Culture Committee is made up of 11 members.
These, and as many substitutes, are chosen by the Municipal Council.
Since 16th November, 2006, the chairwoman has been Vice Mayor Madeleine Sjöstedt (Liberal)
The Culture Administration and the City Archives are subordinate to the Committee.
 

The Committee is responsible for the City’s cultural activities. It is also the authority in charge of the City Archives. The Committee is expected to:

  • monitor and promote the development of culture and cultural activities everywhere in the City
  • organise cultural activities for schools all over the City
  • manage and administer the City’s libraries
  • stage exhibitions and cultural programmes through the Committee’s own institutions, such as the Liljevalchs konsthall (Liljevalch Art Gallery) and Kulturhuset
  • organise artistic embellishment of public places
  • within its brief, organise and oversee the City’s funding of cultural activities and scholarship programmes
  • promote good archival management practices and ensure that the City’s archives are kept accessible to researchers and members of the public.
  • assume responsibility for funding immigrant organisations and integration projects
  • assume responsibility for the citizenship ceremony
  • deal with issues pertaining to national minorities
  • administer and run the Stockholm City Museum and the Museum of Medieval Stockholm
  • preserve, bring alive and pass on the City’s cultural and historical values for present and future generations.

Committee meetings, at which minutes are taken, are held about 10 times each year.
Notice of approval of the minutes is posted in the City Hall. The minutes can be viewed by the public at the Culture Administration, Beridarbansgatan 5, 7 tr (at Brunkebergstorg).
